An individual session is a great idea, either before you commence classes or as an adjunct to your attendance at classes. This provides you the opportunity to ask more specific questions and explore your movement patterns and habits.
It almost fast-tracks you to gain a clear understanding of how you do what you do. Moshe Feldenkrais said that “when you know what you are doing, you can do what you want.” Several possibilities arise from this.
You learn how you may be contributing to issues you experience as pain, stiffness, or limited movement. You discover what it is you wish to gain or change, and how to go about it. You also find how to utilise this learning in daily life.
Jenny also teaches the Pregnant Pauses® Program. This is a unique program designed specifically for pregnant women to learn how to move more easily and comfortably throughout pregnancy.
When women are ready to re-commence exercise after their baby has been born, they can continue classes with Jenny that include appropriate lessons to enhance pelvic floor, lower back and hip function. This series will complement a safe and healthy return to previous exercise activities that you may have engaged in.
Jenny believes that educating her clients about their condition and how to manage it enables them to live a healthy lifestyle. Empowering her clients with knowledge and self-awareness results in improved self-management and less dependence on others for treatment.
Individual Physiotherapy Assessment
An initial assessment will include history taking, objective physical assessment, clarifying client expectations, and setting goals to determine a treatment plan. An appropriate time-line to achieve these goals will be determined. In this way progress can be monitored by us both. This appointment could be 45-60 mins and is determined when appointment is made.
Individual Physiotherapy Treatment
Treatment may include manual therapy, movement retraining, education and exercise. Home exercise is often given as an adjunct to treatment sessions, and to assist you to incorporate what you learn in to daily life.
Once you begin to understand what is causing the problem it becomes easier to manage and prevent recurrence. If pain has been an issue Physiotherapy is a good starting place.
Once this is resolving and movement retraining has commenced it may be appropriate to attend Group Physiotherapy sessions or Awareness Through Movement Classes. This appointment could be 30 mins or more and is determined when appointment is made.
Group Physiotherapy Session
When it is appropriate for strength training to commence these sessions are very helpful to gain further progress. All that you have learned about efficient and effortless movement can be put into practice with different exercises and gradual challenge. Group sessions are also advisable for the commencement of a balance challenge program to prevent a fall. (Balance training is included in all programs, to some extent.)
Exercises that challenge your balance are recommended for many people, and especially if you have Osteoporosis (to help prevent a fall) or sense that your balance is declining for any reason.
Group sessions are also a good starting point if you have been inactive for any reason, eg following injury, surgery, just don’t really like being active but your doctor has recommended you start. With the small group supportive environment and expert advice from Jenny an enjoyable program can be developed that suits your needs.
Groups are small, 3-6 clients.
The Group Session can be supplemented with a specific Home Exercise Program. This can be as simple or advanced as appropriate and acceptable to the individual. Individual assessment is required before attendance at a Group session. Individual review is also required to track progress. This will assist us to monitor that you are reaching goals set in your treatment plan. (It is also a requirement by Private Health Insurance providers.) Assessment and regular individual progress reviews ensure that you stay on track with reaching your movement and physical activity goals.
Time for a Group Session could be 45-60 mins and is determined when appointment is made and depending on demand.
