Awareness Through Movement® Classes

In an Awareness Through Movement class (ATM) the teacher guides you with verbal instruction through a series of movement sequences, allowing you the time to sense how you move.  You are able to discover easier and more efficient ways to move. ATM classes improve your awareness and quality of movement through your body’s feedback.

We all develop habits in the way we respond but we don’t always recognise them. We have habits in the way we move, and the way we organise our thoughts and feelings. Recognising our habits is the first step, and with the Feldenkrais Method movement is the vehicle to change. Awareness Through Movement lessons follow a sequence that may highlight your movement habits, and then allow you to respond in a less habitual way. Thus you have learned a new movement option. This might feel more natural and easier than before.

In many of the classes, participants are lying on a mat, but there are also lessons done sitting on a chair, or standing. Your comfort is most important as the type of learning that is required would not occur if you are feeling pain or discomfort. Please bring a couple  of beach towels to class with you. These will often be used under your head for padding. Wear clothing that you are comfortable to move around in.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
