Finding more ease and enjoyment Walking

In Term 2 we will continue to explore walking and how to find more ease and enjoyment in this seemingly simple task. As I delve more deeply in to this theme, the richness of the lessons has piqued my curiosity and I am finding lots of material to investigate and play with. Since first learning to walk as an infant we develop many habits that restrict efficient walking. These habits appear for many reasons, including past injuries, spending many hours seated, or the classic postural instruction to “stand up straight!” Reduced flexibility through our shoulders, ribs, hips, and legs affects the smooth and integrated whole-body movement that is walking. During each lesson we will be learning new movement sequences, listening to our own habits, and reducing unnecessary movements. This engages our nervous system and allows us to change: notice a new possibility and decide whether it is one we will use.

This series will be of interest to those of you planning walking or hiking holidays (or were prior to Covid-19 and will get back on track at some point), and for any of us who just enjoy walking! I invite you to spend an hour learning how you move the way you do. Be curious, let go, find the length of your muscles, and enjoy something different 😊

Group Strength and Balance session

This class will be suitable for those people wishing to begin strength and balance training, as well as anyone with previous experience.

Strength training is a great idea for management of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, before and after surgery (to build strength prior to surgery or as post-op rehabilitation), if you are less active than you should be and need some guidance, following inactivity for any reason, and especially if your doctor has advised you to begin exercising.

Exercises that challenge your balance are recommended for many people, especially if you wish to prevent a fall, sense that your balance is declining for any reason, or have osteoporosis.

With the small group supportive environment and expert advice from Jenny, an enjoyable program can be developed that suits your needs.
