Finding more ease and enjoyment Walking
In Term 1 we will explore a seemingly simple task or certainly one that many of us take for granted. Since first learning to walk as an infant we develop many habits that restrict efficient walking. These habits appear for many reasons including past injuries, spending many hours seated, or the classic postural one “stand up straight!”. Less flexibility through our arms, ribs, hips and legs affects the smooth and integrated whole-body movement that is required for walking. During each lesson we will be learning new movement sequences, listening to our own habits, and reducing unnecessary movements. This novelty engages our nervous system and allows us to change, notice a new possibility and decide whether it is one we will use.
This series will be of interest to those of you planning walking or hiking holidays. I invite you to spend an hour learning how you move the way you do. Be curious, let go, find the length of your muscles, and enjoy something different 😊
